From the beginning of her career, Magdalena Fernández’s work has been marked by a conceptual trend, linked to her scientific concerns, and her deep interest in geometric abstraction. Industrial materials handling and mastery of space give her creations a prominent role in the world of contemporary art.

Currently, she seeks to create visual atmospheres through direct use of natural elements: water, light, fire, combining them with new (audiovisual, optical fibers, etc.) technologies and abstraction. Her work is conceived as a sensory experience that she performs by manipulating the environment.

Fernández has participated in the I Mercosul Biennial, Porto Alegre, Brazil, 1997; IV Bienal Barro de América Roberto Guevara, Alejandro Otero Museum, Caracas Venezuela, 2001; I Biennial End of the World, Ushuaia, Argentina, 2007; and X Bienal of Cuenca “Poetics of water,” Cuenca, Ecuador, 2009. She represented Venezuela at the 53rd Venice Biennale, 2009.
