XVII Bienal de Arte Paiz

This biennial continued with a format change proposed by curators Rosina Cazali, Miguel Flores, Nelson Herrera Ysla, Victor Martínez, and Guillermo Monsanto in 2008, whereby a curatorial committee was formed to select a central theme but also to phase out the Bienal de Arte Paiz as a showcase for contemporary Guatemalan art and to replace it with an international biennial.

The Colombian José Roca led the curatorial team composed of curators Emiliano Valdes, Marivi Véliz, and Miguel Flores, who were given the task of shaping the concept Seeing is believing, and selecting the artists and the works that would be presented in Guatemala City. After reviewing many dossiers and visiting numerous artists, the curatorial team selected thirty Guatemalan and ten international artists.
