A group of artists founded by Jeebesh Bagchi, Monica Narula, and Sengupta Shuddhabrata, who plays with the plurality of roles as curators, artists, or agents provocateurs, among others.

The name “Raqs” comes from a word used in Persian, Arabic, and Urdu to refer to a state of meditation. This collective works as a laboratory of thought that proposes Aesthetics as a starting point for social and political reflection. The group focused its initial interest in documentary cinema making films. Playing multiple roles, it currently realizes installations and performances, as well as publishing projects, and curatorial and educational programs, from different disciplines such as sociology, geography, mathematics, industrial design, and urban planning.

Raqs Media Collective has participated in exhibitions in Europe, USA, India, and Latin America, including “The Rest of Now, 2008,” Manifesta 7, Bolzano, Italy, 2008, and “All the World’s Futures” 56th Venice Biennale, 2015.
