Cao Guimarães is a film director who lives and works in the city where he was born: Belo Horizonte. He started in the world of photography working in small laboratories, subsequently becoming professor of photographic studies at the University of Westminster in London. Since 1990 he produces video, video installations, and films.

His work combines cinema and visual arts. Fascinated by the language of images, he has created films devoid of conventionalisms, where he formulates a vanguard proposal of visual language to capture the beauty of everyday life, presented in a way that merges film with contemporary art.

Gimarães has participated in the 25th and 27th Bienal de São Paulo, Brazil, 2002 and 2006; “Sharjah Biennial 11 Film Programme,” Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, 2013; “Tropicália: The 60s in Brazil,” Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna, Austria, 2010. Film festivals: Cannes, Locarno, Sundance, Venice, Rotterdam, and Berlin, among others.
